Mastery Journal Public Relations
This course really met my expectations because it gave me the chance to grow in an area that connects directly with what I enjoy doing most, and that is communicating through story. I came into this course wanting to sharpen my public relations skills, but I also wanted to see how these lessons could connect to the kind of work I already love. This month helped me see that public relations is not just about getting information out. It is about being clear, intentional, professional, and making sure the message connects with people.
My favorite assignment in this course was creating the PSA video. I love telling my story and the stories of other people visually. That is my favorite art form. There is something powerful about taking a message and bringing it to life through visuals, sound, and structure. That assignment felt natural to me because it allowed me to use both creativity and purpose at the same time. I did not just feel like I was completing homework. I felt like I was doing something that fits who I am and what I want to continue doing professionally.
Out of all the course topics we covered this month, I believe drafting the PSA will help me the most as a public relations professional. Knowing how to professionally gather the right information and then relay it in a direct and meaningful way is very important. In public relations, every word matters. You have to be able to communicate clearly, stay on message, and make sure the audience understands the purpose behind what you are saying. That is a skill I know will help me in many different areas moving forward.
The knowledge I gained this month will prepare me to work with professionals in the public relations industry because it taught me how to think more strategically about communication. The A/V script especially stood out to me. Being able to smoothly organize the visuals, the sounds, and the order of the message helped me better understand how professional communication pieces come together. That kind of planning matters when you are working with teams, clients, media, or the public.
Overall, this month helped confirm that I enjoy public relations because it allows me to combine strategy with storytelling. It also showed me that strong communication is not just about being creative. It is also about being structured, professional, and effective. I can definitely use what I learned this month in my future work in public relations and in the storytelling projects I care about most.
